Trekking in Italy has most riders without hats due to
the heat and also because they are totally oblivious to the instincts
and capabilities of the horse even at walk.
Unfortunately most of the schools have to cater for this
need because without it they would have very few customers.
Insist on wearing a hat.
BE AWARE! Trekking is often at walk at other centres so
you need to check what you are booking, and book with a group of equal
standard riders.

Showing the abilities of the horse and giving people a
different mind set will take time, but even in the UK where horse riding
is a major sport most people still want to be told they are good riders
even if they are not. People have told me that if they go for a ride it
is always best to say that you are a very good rider because you then
get a very good horse, yes probably one that will kill you if you havent
got the skills for a finely tuned animal!

You would not expect an athlete eg a person who does the high jump to
simply walk into an arena and just run at the jump. They would need
to work out their stride, approach from the correct direction based
on the leg they use to jump and then think about speed and or energy.
Yet we think a horse has all those skills not even knowing that he is
going to jump.

Have your basic horse riding lesson BUT in Italian!
Get involved in the language, learn just a few words of instruction
and have a fun lesson in the safety of a school arena, you definately
dont want to be out Trekking if you dont understand some general instructions
in Italian.
You are able to book lessons with an English or an Italian Instructor.

Lungeing and Long Reining Marche
Learn the art of both Lungeing and Long Reining even if you dont have
your own horse and realise that if the horse cant work correctly without
a rider it has no chance with a rider particularly if the rider is unbalanced
and without basic skills.
